HYPOCRITICAL CAMPBELL GOV'T PROMOTES OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS

‘If Campbell were serious about climate change, he'd stand by the moratorium," says Horgan

News Release - July 3, 2008

New Democrat energy critic John Horgan says it is astounding that Gordon Campbell's new finance minister is continuing to promote offshore oil and gas exploration.

"GET READY FOR HYDRO INCREASES," WARNS HORGAN

Campbell's privatization agenda will drive up electricity costs, says NDP energy critic

As British Columbians get walloped by Gordon Campbell's new fuel tax, New Democrat energy critic John Horgan is warning that hydro costs are also on their way up thanks to Campbell's privatization agenda.

CAMPBELL CUTS SPECIAL DEALS WITH BIG POLLUTERS, HITS ORDINARY BRITISH COLUMBIANS WITH FUEL TAX

News Release - June 29, 2008

The Campbell government has cut special deals with big polluters who will not have to pay the fuel tax, while ordinary consumers will be hit at the pump starting on Canada Day, New Democrat energy critic John Horgan said today.

"Big polluters are being let off the hook, while ordinary British Columbians have to pay the fuel tax.  It's one story for the B.C. Liberals' big corporate friends, and another for ordinary British Columbians," said Horgan, the MLA for Malahat-Juan de Fuca.

JOHN HORGAN ON CKNW's "World Today"

News Release - June 26, 2008

JOHN HORGAN says it's "striking" to hear Premier Campbell talk about the "need for selflessness when the only people he is asking to pay the bills are the ones who can least afford it."  He claims the "speed at which the Premier is making his decisions in isolation of the realities that ordinary people are facing every day" is at the root of the problem with the carbon tax and suggests latest poll results show the public is shifting away from that position.

BIGGEST POLLUTERS WON'T PAY FAIR SHARE UNDER CAMPBELL'S FUEL TAX, SAYS NDP

News Release - June 24, 2008

Gordon Campbell's claim that B.C.'s largest polluters are contributing their fair share toward fighting climate change is simply not true, say the New Democrats.

"Right now, Alcan is spewing out carbon emissions and they're not paying a dime for it," said NDP energy critic John Horgan. "Flaring at gas wells accounts for 13.5 per cent of our greenhouse gas emissions, but rather than making them pay for those emissions, the Campbell government is giving them record high subsidies."
