OFFICIAL OPPOSITION URGES CAMPBELL TO SUPPORT LOBBYIST ACT CHANGES

VICTORIA - Following weeks of unanswered questions about the lobbying activities of high-ranking BC Liberal insiders, today the Official Opposition re-introduced a private member's Bill to strengthen the Lobbyists Registration Act.

"Yesterday the Attorney General said he wanted to fix the lobbyist rules. We've been hearing that for years, but the Campbell government still hasn't taken action. So the Official Opposition has  done the work for them," said Opposition leader Carole James.

Representatives of three levelsof government were at the Langford rail station yesterday to champion the E&N Rail Line for federal/provincial infrastructure funds. 

Several capital region mayors joined forces with New Democrat MLAs Maurine Karagianis and John Horgan and Liberal MP Keith Martin, who called transforming the E&N into a viable commuter line one of the most pressing infrastructure needs in the area.

VICTORIA - Gordon Campbell should immediately stop forcing BC Hydro to waste almost $1 billion on his so-called ‘smart metering' pet project, says New Democrat energy critic John Horgan.

Horgan said Campbell's scheme to force BC Hydro to install new meters in homes throughout B.C. that would show consumers their real time use of electricity is an ill-conceived waste of money that would be better spent on initiatives to help homes become more energy efficient.

VICTORIA - Newly-appointed energy minister Blair Lekstrom should stand by his principles and put a stop to Gordon Campbell's plans to ram through private power projects over local communities' objections, New Democrat energy critic John Horgan said today.

In 2006 Lekstrom joined with the NDP to vote against Section 56 of Bill 30, controversial legislation brought in by Gordon Campbell that stripped local governments of control over power developments.
