I want to take this opportunity to inform my constituents that I have recently been diagnosed with cancer of the bladder.  Following consultation with my doctor and a specialist, I will be undergoing surgery today.

I will be taking a few weeks off for recovery before returning to my normal work schedule.  My capable staff will continue to be available to work on issues of concern to constituents, ensuring I am kept updated on case files and other matters that are important to residents of Malahat-Juan de Fuca.

The recent eviction notices delivered to a Sooke mobile home park by developers has sent a chill through parks across Vancouver Island.  The recent court decision to support Oak Bay Marine Group over long time tenants at Pedder Bay speaks to the disproportionate power relationship between residents and landlords put in place by the BC Liberals.

VICTORIA - Malahat-Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan is calling on Gordon Campbell to stop intervening in Capital Regional District planning decisions and respect local democracy.

Horgan is alarmed Community Development minister Blair Lekstrom has taken a land use decision out of the hands of voters as well as the CRD by forcing binding arbitration on amendments to the regional growth strategy.
