VICTORIA - The B.C. Liberals are trying to sneak through a 29 per cent electricity rate hike, demanding B.C. Hydro deliver an extra $254 million to government in the next year alone, Opposition energy critic John Horgan said today.

VICTORIA - The B.C. Liberal government must take steps to ensure First Nations are adequately consulted before hydro transmission lines are erected on their traditional territory, say the Official Opposition.
The B.C. Transmission Corporation is considering a transmission line known as the Interior to Lower Mainland line, running from Merritt to Coquitlam. More than two dozen First Nations have made submissions to the B.C. Utility Commission noting that their concerns have not been adequately addressed.

Opposition Environment Critic Shane Simpson today called on the Gordon Campbell government to endorse the recommendation made by the Kemess Mine Project Review Panel.
In a report released yesterday, the joint federal-provincial panel has ruled that the Northgate Minerals project application for the proposed Kemess North mine not be approved by the provincial and federal governments in order to protect the adjoining Amazay Lake.
