VICTORIA - John Horgan, MLA for Malahat-Juan de Fuca, is taking a new approach to the old idea of a community Town Hall Meeting. Rather than having the people come to him, he is going to them. And what better place to find people then on their commute home.
"Many people living in Sooke and the West Shore who work downtown are not always able to attend an evening or weekend meeting, so I'm going to see them and share their ride home. I want to hear what people think about our transit system, the gas tax and commuter rail," said Horgan.
Horgan has been calling on all levels of government to support a commuter rail system and has been working with community groups on this project since his election. He sees the train as one more transportation option that will get people out of their cars and provide a quick and comfortable way to get to work.
"I'd also like to hear what constituents have to say about increases to their Hydro bill, healthcare and education funding, childcare waitlists, or anything else that's on their mind" said Horgan. "Unlike Premier Campbell, who is increasingly out of touch with British Columbians, I am really looking forward to connecting with constituents at the end of their working day".
Horgan will be on the #61 Sooke bus, heading north, on Thursday, September 11 and Monday, September 22. He'll be catching the 4:50pm bus leaving Government at Superior.
