I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of kind words, encouragement and best wishes for my speedy recovery and am truly grateful to be a part of this wonderful, supportive community!

My recuperation is going well and I expect to be back standing up for the rights of constituents at the opening of the Legislature on November 20th.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN HORGAN

October 24, 2008

I want to take this opportunity to inform my constituents that I have recently been diagnosed with cancer of the bladder.  Following consultation with my doctor and a specialist, I will be undergoing surgery today.

I will be taking a few weeks off for recovery before returning to my normal work schedule.  My capable staff will continue to be available to work on issues of concern to constituents, ensuring I am kept updated on case files and other matters that are important to residents of Malahat-Juan de Fuca.

VICTORIA - Malahat-Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan is calling on Gordon Campbell to stop intervening in Capital Regional District planning decisions and respect local democracy.

Horgan is alarmed Community Development minister Blair Lekstrom has taken a land use decision out of the hands of voters as well as the CRD by forcing binding arbitration on amendments to the regional growth strategy.
