VICTORIA - Auditor General John Doyle's report today paints a picture of an arrogant B.C. Liberal government more concerned with acting  on the interests of its corporate donors than protecting the public interest, say the Official Opposition.

And Opposition forestry critic Bob Simpson said the report shows that former forest minister Rich Coleman violated the public trust and should be removed from cabinet.

The Campbell government has cut special deals with big polluters who will not have to pay the fuel tax, while ordinary consumers will be hit at the pump starting on Canada Day, Opposition energy critic John Horgan said today.

"Big polluters are being let off the hook, while ordinary British Columbians have to pay the fuel tax.  It's one story for the B.C. Liberals' big corporate friends, and another for ordinary British Columbians," said Horgan, the MLA for Malahat-Juan de Fuca.

VICTORIA - Opposition MLA John Horgan is calling on the new Forest Minister Pat Bell to separate himself from his predecessor's woeful record by reconsidering the decision to allow the removal of lands from Tree Farm Licenses on western Vancouver Island.

Horgan wrote to Minister Bell today, saying that former minister Rich Coleman's decision to release 28,000 hectares of land from the TFLs in the Jordan River and Shirley areas has had profound effects on the region.

VICTORIA - Opposition MLA John Horgan today urged Forest Minister Rich Coleman to reverse his decision to allow Western Forest Products to sell off thousands of hectares of private lands from Tree Farm Licences on Vancouver Island.  Horgan made the call in reaction to news that WFP had issued layoff notices to 2,000 more forest workers on Vancouver Island.

"Not a single car will come off the Malahat as a result of today's announcement," said Malahat-Juan De Fuca MLA John Horgan. "It's another typical Campbell government announcement that leads with promise, ends in disappointment and once again fails to look at the South Island as a whole."
