It gives me great pleasure to rise today in this House and speak of one of Sooke's finest residents, Maywell Wickheim, who has been active in countless organizations up and down Vancouver Island and has spent most of his life contributing to the welfare of others and to his community. He has been nominated for the Order of B.C. and, in my opinion, is a most deserving recipient of that award.

I rise today to pay tribute to the people of the capital regional district who for the past three years have been working to raise awareness about the importance of former forest lands west of Sooke in my constituency of Juan de Fuca.

I rise today to congratulate all of those associated with the aboriginal education program offered in the Sooke school district, district 62. This program offers support and mentorship to all aboriginal students living both off reserve and on reserves in Pacheedaht, Scia'new and T'Sou-ke, encouraging them to take pride in their culture, their history and their traditions.
